We provide hour-long 1:1 sessions, instead of rushing appointments or juggling multiple clients. Some providers see multiple patients at the same time, or have 30 to 45 minute appointments. At Reclaim Your Life, we always spend a full hour with you, and never double book.
We provide consistency and keep you with the same provider, instead of rotating you between providers or having an aide guide you through exercises. Many clinics use aides or assistants to guide you through your exercises without providing professional care or ongoing assessment. At Reclaim Your Life, the same doctor of physical therapy sees and assesses you ant every visit to ensure you meet your goals as efficiently as possible.
We do a full body exam instead of limiting your exam to the pelvic floor. While some providers base diagnosis on a pelvic exam alone, we also assess your core bracing strategies, ability to squat, jump, run, lift, and other important movements that bring on your symptoms.
We treat in the privacy of your own home. While many providers treat in busy clinics, we provide virtual services in order to make sure that you have privacy and the ability to relax during your appointment.
We take a holistic approach to your care, instead of hyper-focusing on the musculoskeletal system. At Reclaim Your Life, we account for the role of your fascial system and nervous system in the function of your pelvic floor. While many providers focus strictly on fixing your muscular impairments, we also treat your fascial and nervous systems to enhance and speed up your recovery.
We individualize your treatment to your activity level and goals, instead of using cookie cutter protocols. Our patients who play tennis have a different set of goals than our CrossFit patients, so we provide tailored treatment.
We are nervous system experts. While most providers focus on the physical impairments, we consider the role of your nervous system in your symptoms and provide tools to regulate your nervous system alongside pelvic floor treatment.
We embrace your athleticism and help you maintain activity, instead of encouraging you to stop or avoid activity. While many providers will encourage you to stop exercise or avoid certain activities, we understand the importance of maintaining activity and embracing your sport during rehab.
We help you get back to high-level activities, instead of beginning and ending your rehab doing table exercises. Some providers only prescribe pelvic exercises and ignore functional activities like jumping rope, running distances, or lifting weights—even if these are their patients’ goals. At Reclaim Your Life, we bridge the gap from pelvic exercises to your highest level goals to make sure you can live the life you enjoy, symptom free.
We take in to account your practices and beliefs, rather than dismissing your own wisdom. Your body is not just a collection of physical parts, there are many aspects of the body and many ways to view and heal it. We will develop a plan of care that fits your beliefs and preferences, instead of forcing you in to a mold that does not fit with your lived experience.
We treat all of the common conditions that coincide with pelvic floor issues, instead of ignoring your non-pelvic pain. While many pelvic providers see only pelvic floor patients, we also treat related conditions including headaches, plantar fasciitis, and low back pain. At Reclaim Your Life, we can heal all of these problems in one place, with a single program that addresses them all.
Treatments Include
Functional Movement Assessment
A functional movement assessment will guide you through a series of movement tests and exercises including squats, bending, twisting, balance tasks, and other real-life movements.
The assessment will identify any movement dysfunctions, imbalances, or limitations that may contribute to pain, injury risk, or compromised performance. By evaluating how different parts of the body work together and identifying any movement compensations or asymmetries, the assessment can provide insights into potential areas for improvement or targeted interventions.
Strength and Conditioning
Targeted training to achieve your goals and improve your movement patterns. This includes long-term exercise plans that are effective and enjoyable.
Fascia Mobilization
Fascia is the connective tissue that is implicated in most muscle pain. This connective tissue can get “stuck” and cause aches and pains, including muscle “knots.” Our techniques include instrument-assisted self-mobilization (e.g. using a tennis ball or book) to actively release tight areas and specific exercises that mobilize the fascia to improve flexibility, reduce pain, and improve movement patterns.
Pelvic Floor Health
Pelvic floor health coaching is aimed at assessing and treating various conditions related to the pelvic floor, such as pelvic pain, urinary or fecal incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse, sexual dysfunction, and postpartum musculoskeletal issues. It involves a comprehensive evaluation to identify any dysfunctions or imbalances.
Treatment in pelvic floor physical therapy may include targeted exercises to strengthen or relax the pelvic floor muscles, biofeedback techniques to improve awareness and control of these muscles, manual therapy to release muscle tension or trigger points, education on proper bladder and bowel habits, and lifestyle modifications to support pelvic health.
Women’s Health Coaching
Personalized assessment and guidance through pregnancy, post-partum, and peri-menopause to improve health, reduce pain, increase libido, and improve every aspect of your life. This can include optimizing nutrition, increasing strength and resilience, addressing stress, and enhancing intimacy.
Rehabilitation
When an orthopedic injury or surgery occurs, there can be disruption or damage to the neuromuscular system that results in muscle weakness, loss of coordination, altered movement patterns, and impaired proprioception (your sense of your body’s position and movement). Rehabilitation helps address these issues and facilitate the restoration of optimal movement and function. Reclaim Your Life Training focuses on motor control, coordination, stability, balance, and body mechanics for optimal movement.
SST (Sport-Specific Training)
Sport-specific movement analysis and training includes repetitive movements like running, throwing, and jumping with video analysis and corrective techniques to reduce the risk of injury.
Nervous System Training
Nervous System Training is a subset of therapies that uses body awareness, breathwork, and movement to reduce stress and tension. Techniques include grounding, container work (self-massage), breathing techniques, progressive muscle relaxation, guided meditation, and yoga-based movement therapy for sensory integration. Nervous system training can help with chronic pain, headaches, and muscle tension.
